Honky Dory Pinot Noir 2013
Probably the best introductory pinot noir I have tasted and a great value. It puts some of the top end pinots’ to shame. Meaty gamey autumnal aroma, spicy fruit with the right amount of sweet cherry fruit . Tannins are savoury and dry. While maybe a shade simple and short every component is heading in the right direction. Bravo to the winemaker and vineyard.
The bouquet is expressed with dark plum and cherry, spice and some vanilla.
The palate has rich dark cherry and berryfruit flavours with some savoury and spice notes.
The vanilla pod from the French oak melds well with the grape tannins and the wine is very drinkable.
Hunky Dory Pinot Noir is delicious with lamb, beef, duck confit and anything to do with porcini mushrooms.
